Chaotic transport in low-dimensional superlattices

چکیده
We predict that in arrays of quantum dots ~0D superlattice! and arrays of one-dimensional quantum wires ~1D superlattice! chaotic transport should be observed in the presence of an ac field and for a wide range of physical parameters, like the external dc bias, contact charge, doping levels, and disorder in the array. Timedependent current oscillations set in the array due to the formation of electric domain walls when sequential resonant tunneling is the main transport mechanism between adjacent units. Such oscillations can then be forced into spatiotemporal chaos. A similar phenomenon has been predicted and demonstrated for solid-state superlattices. However, contrary to the latter case, the domain walls move across a larger number of units in the superlattice the lower the dimensionality, due to the different spatial distribution of the electric-field across the array in the three cases.

Regular rather than chaotic origin of the resonant transport in superlattices.
We address the enhancement of electron transport in semiconductor superlattices that occurs in combined electric and magnetic fields when cyclotron rotation becomes resonant with Bloch oscillations. We show that the phenomenon is regular in origin, contrary to the widespread belief that it arises through chaotic diffusion. The theory verified by simulations provides an accurate description of e...
متن کاملEvolving random fractal Cantor superlattices for the infrared using a genetic algorithm
Ordered and chaotic superlattices have been identified in Nature that give rise to a variety of colours reflected by the skin of various organisms. In particular, organisms such as silvery fish possess superlattices that reflect a broad range of light from the visible to the UV. Such superlattices have previously been identified as 'chaotic', but we propose that apparent 'chaotic' natural struc...
متن کاملAn investigation of the presence of low- dimensional chaotic behaviour in the sediment transport phenomenon
Understanding the dynamics of the various components (and the mechanisms involved) in a river system and establishing precise relationships between them are important for an accurate description of the sediment transport phenomenon. Despite the significant progress achieved in the last century with the development of a variety of approaches, there is no generally accepted simple relationship be...
متن کاملCross-plane thermal conductivity of self-assembled Ge quantum dot superlattices
The self-assembled quantum dot structure is an interesting topic for physical investigation of zero-dimensional system. Due to the low-dimensional confinement effect, the Ge-on-Si quantum dot structure is expected to demonstrate novel optoelectronic properties that can be applied to develop Sibased technology competitive with traditional optoelectronic materials such as III-V compounds. In addi...

In this paper we review some recent ideas of synchronization theory. We apply this theory to study the different synchronization aspects of uni-directionally coupled pair of chaotic one-dimensional Gaussian maps.
